What's this Flavour?

My brother also brought three packs of Walkers Crisps as a souvenir.

Nobody knows what flavour they are.

Just try them, guess and identify the flavour name.

If the name is correct, we can win £50,000 for each flavour.

Sounds fun!! ...but that campaign is open to the residents of the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Republic Ireland only.

Magnets from UK

My brother returned home from trip to England with a lot of souvenirs.

He is unusually talkative today, that mean he must have spent an exciting time there.

I had asked him to get me a variety of magnets, and he made it!!

Especially, the magnet of Humpty Dumpty has a great impact on me.

NZ marks quake anniversary

More than 10,000 New Zealanders and 90 people from Japan, some teary eyed, stood in silence at a Christchurch park Wednesday while police officers and firefighters read out the names of all 185 people who died in a devastating earthquake one year ago.

The reading was followed by two minutes of silence at 12:51 p.m., the minue the magnitude 6.3 quake struck.

It destroyed thousands of homes and much of downtown Christchurch, causing $25 billion in damage by the government's estimate.

The ceremony at North Hagley Park, which included speeches and songs, was part of a day of remembrance taking place across the country.

Police spokesman Stephen Hill said the emergency services representatives who read the names had been involved in rescue efforts.

185 vivid orange and black monarch butterflies were released by eaight quake-affected children at the end of the ceremony.

Each butterfly represented one person who died, "a soul departed."

Family and friends of 24 of the 28 Japanese victims, who all died when the CTV building collapsed, were among the participants in a government-sponsored ceremony and offered a moment of silence.

They also went to the site of the collapsed building, most of them apparently for the first time, and offered flowers and took photos at the site, which is still closed to prevent another possible disaster during aftershocks.

Coca-Cola Happiness Machine

Look at the following video.

I like their smiles with Coca-Cola's Happiness Machine.

I feel sorry it's difficult in Japan to see such sense of humor.

Orange Battle

Thousands of people took part in the traditional Battle of Oranges in the Italian city of Ivrea.

Legend has it that several centuries ago, an uprising against local tyrant burst out in Ivrea, during which citizens were throwing stones at the tyrant's troops.

To commemorate the event, stones were replaced with oranges during subsequent commemorations of the event.

400 or 500 tons worth of oranges were pelted each other.

It seems to be fun, but to clean up the city after the battle must be toil and moil. (^o^;)

Late Valentine

I got one pig-shaped chocolate and one brownie as a Valentine gift.

I like these abnormal ones!!

60th Birthday

My boss Mr. Ogura reached his 60th birthday on January 4th.

In addition, Ms. Araki's birthday is also in January.

And moreovere, my birthday follows just a month later.

We're quite busy for recruiting new students this season, so we put three birthday parties together last week.

I gave a small bag to Mr. Ogura.

To Ms. Araki, I presented "Nomu Shoga (=Ginger Syrup)" to keep her warm in this cold winter.

And these are my presents.

And also I wrote a letter to Mr. Ogura to tell him my much gratitude.

He seemed to be very happy, and I hope his smile will last forever. (^^)

Urawa Reds 2012 Season Ticket

Urawa Reds 2012 season tickets arrived yesterday!!

We managed to secure the present seats last year, and we can see all the home games at the same place in this season, too.

It'll be difficult for me to go to Saitama Stadium because most of all games will be held on Saturday.

I wanna go as many times as possible.

Anyway, some small presents are given to all the season ticket holders by Urawa Reds as a token of appreciation.

This season's presents are a bag and a small button.

Many knows that the performance in last season was quite terrible.

I hope to see better plays in this 2012 season.

Go Reds Go!! (≧▽≦)/

World's Smallest Chameleon

Chameleons are known for changing their color to camouflage themselves, but tthis tiny little creaure should have no trouble going unnoticed.

Brookesia micra is found only on the small island of Nosy Hara, Madagascar, and has been dubbed the smallest chameleon in the world, measuring from nose to tail 29 millimeters at its largest.

Scientists believe it represents a notable example of what they call "island dwarfism."

They've also discovered three new species of super-tiny chameleons.

Madagascar suffers from numerous human-induced environmental problems resulting in severe habitat destruction, and many of endemic species are heavily threatened by deforestation and may be close to extinction.

※ If you want to know more specific information about the tiny chameleons, go to PLoS ONE article (published on Feb. 14th, 2012).

Rising or Stay Cold?

TEPCO announced Monday that the thermometer has been broken rather than the temperature was actually rising in the pressure vessel of reactor 2 at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

The reading of one of the thermometers at the bottom of the reactor 2 began to rise late last month.

But the two other thermometers at the same height are showing around 31-34 degrees.

Well, I mean, there's no fear to stop the ongoing cold shutdown.

But somewhere in my mind, I suspected the truth of TEPCO's announcement...

Whitney Houston Dies

If you've been on the Internet or on Twitter, or if you watched Grammy Awards, you know about the death of Whitney Houston.

The pop superstar was found dead on Saturday.

Officials are trying to figure out what caused Houston's death.

Whitney Houston was a musical icon.

The singer launched a career in the 1980s.

She sold more than 170 million albums and won six Grammy Awards, and her success extended to movies, too.

In recent years, Houston made headlines because of her battles with drug addiction.

She was 48 years old.

Good Luck, Brother!!

My brother left Japan to participate in the studying abroad program in UK.

He's going to stay in Oxford for two weeks.

I also went to Narita with him to see him off this morning.

Just in front of the security check, there was a Valentine's Day special booth to hang a message card to their lover.

And I've never seen such a congested Check-in Counter ever before!!

Perhaps that must have disgusted my brother.

At any rate, I really envy him to see his plane taking off.

Good luck!!

ONE PIECE Vol. 65

Setsubun 2012

February 3rd is the day of seasonal division called Setsubun in Japan.

On this day, people throw roasted soybeans out the door (or at a member of family wearing demon mask) and say "Demons out! Luck in!"

Afterwards they also eat the number of roasted soybeans, which corresponds to their age.

I ate 24 beans.

I hope good luck comes to me this year.
